<p><a href="http://www.grittv.org/"><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-2402" style="margin-left: 10px; margin-right: 10px;" title="grittv" src="http://www.newstex.info/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2010/09/grittv.jpg" alt="" width="200" height="73" />GRITtv</a> launched in May 2008, and today, the daily 30-minute discussion reaches  millions of viewers each week airing three times per day on Free Speech TV, on Dish network (9415), on DirecTV (340),   on cable and public  television stations nationwide, and online.</p>
<p>GRITtv videos incorporate  viewer-submitted  content.  As the GRITtv website explains, the goal is:</p>

<p>GRITtv videos are hosted by founder <a href="http://www.lauraflanders.com/">Laura Flanders</a> who is a journalist, author and media activist.  Her books include the <em>New York Times</em> bestseller <em>Bushwomen: Tales of a Cynical Species </em>and <em>Blue Grit: Making Impossible, Improbable, and Inspirational Political Change in America.</em> She  is also a regular contributor to The Nation magazine and the Huffington  Post and a regular commentator on MSNBC&#8217;s &#8220;The Ed Show.&#8221;</p>
<p>Recent videos published by GRITtv cover topics as diverse as green jobs, human rights in the United States, New Orleans years after Hurricane Katrina, Iraq, the Tea Party, and anchor babies.  GRITtv videos feature diverse voices discussing ideas and concerns viewers don&#8217;t always find from traditional news outlets.</p>
<p>While GRITtv is categorized as being a political publisher, the video and discussion topics include far more than just politics.  There is always something new, different, and thought-provoking to see and hear on GRITtv.</p>

<p>Online privacy has been a concern for years but only in recent years, with the explosive growth of the social web, has the concern grown about a person&#8217;s own words coming back to harm him or her in the future.  That&#8217;s because nearly everyone is using the social web these days, and many are only just beginning to realize that what they publish today could still be found in a Google search years from now.</p>
<p>Newstex syndicates the authoritative content from Thomson Reuters&#8217; podcast, <a href="http://legalcurrent.com/">Legal Current</a>, about the business and practice of law, and this week, an interview with Jeffrey Rosen delved into online privacy and the problems associated with exposing too much of oneself in the digital space.  Jeffrey Rosen is a law professor at George Washington University whose article about online privacy, <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/2010/07/25/magazine/25privacy-t2.html">“The End of Forgetting,”</a> appeared in <em>The New York Times Magazine</em> in July.</p>
<p>In Rosen&#8217;s interview with the Legal Current podcast, he explains, “The right to privacy tends to cover only the outrageous or the untrue  postings, things that are highly offensive to a reasonable person. <p>Enter<a href="http://dailyappshow.com/" target="_blank"> The Daily App Show</a>, a Web site that offers blog and video reviews of iPhone apps, which was founded by <a href="http://dailyappshow.com/about-us/jerad-hill" target="_blank">Jerad Hill</a>.</p>
<p>The Daily App Show downloads the apps and tests them, and then publishes reviews in the site&#8217;s blog or video content.  The videos are well produced and include short demos, reviews, tips and suggestions for using the apps.  They&#8217;re short and to the point, which means you can easily watch a number of videos without wasting a lot of time.</p>
<p>The Daily App Show podcast has become so popular that it reached #2 in the Computer and Technology Channel and #22 overall on iTunes.</p>
<p>Anyone can suggest an iPhone app for The Daily App Show to test and review.  Additionally, developers can submit their iPhone apps for review on The Daily App Show at reasonable fees.</p>

<p>The Young Turks is considered the first nationwide liberal talk show and first live, daily Internet TV show.  Videos from The Young Turks provide a funny, smart, irreverent and entertaining look at politics, sex, news, pop culture, current affairs and personal stories. The Young Turks airs live Monday F from 6:00-9:00 pm ET via webcast nationwide.</p>
<p>But that description doesn&#8217;t really tell the complete story about The Young Turks.  This line from the site&#8217;s About page sums up The Young Turks quite well:</p>
<p>The Young Turks is revolutionary in, <em>&#8221; daring to be honest with people. We  				don&#8217;t patronize our viewers or lie to them. We have real  				conversations and deliver the news honestly.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>Along with honest reporting on a host of topics, The Young Turks provides  authoritative content.  The following quote from General Wesley Clark says it all:</p>
<p><em>&#8220;The role and impact of new media on the electoral process grows every year. The Young Turks get it. Their live webcast reaches and engages people where they live and work. It has become a part of the national conversation on the air and over the Internet.&#8221;</em></p>
<p>With recent videos about how Republicans feel about Fox News, fake prostitution rings, and how much reality television stars get paid, the content is most definitely varied, interesting, and insightful.</p>
<p>The Young Turks represents a perfect example of authoritative content coming from online video and nontraditional media sources (although one could argue that the term &#8220;nontraditional media sources&#8221; has changed a lot over the past few years &#8212; but I&#8217;ll save that for another post).</p>

<p><img class="alignleft size-full wp-image-1189" style="margin-right: 10px;" title="daisy-whitney-new-media-minute" src="http://www.newstex.info/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2009/07/daisy-whitney-new-media-minute.jpg" alt="daisy-whitney-new-media-minute" width="216" height="56" />Daisy Whitney is one of the first journalists to launch an online newscast that focuses on the business of Internet video &#8212; Daisy Whitney&#8217;s New Media Minute.  In her videos, Daisy discusses social networking, YouTube, iTunes, and other forms of online video and content distribution.  Daisy is a natural in front of the camera, and she brings a broad background in business and new media with her to her video content.  She can be found writing and speaking about new media in a variety of places such as <em>Advertising Age</em> and Beet.tv, and she has appeared on or been interviewed for a variety of online and offline publications and programs such as <em>CNN&#8217;s Showbiz Tonight</em> and <em>CNBC&#8217;s Closing Bell</em>.</p>
<p>In addition to her new media background, Daisy is also an author having written both young adult novels and commercial women&#8217;s fiction.  It&#8217;s not surprising that she brings her knowledge of and interest in publishing to her videos, which gives them a unique perspective.  For example, some of Daisy&#8217;s recent videos for New Media Minute focused on topics such as how to make six-figure income on YouTube and YouTube&#8217;s new moneymaking strategy, as well as subjects like what women want from new media and how publishers are trying to keep up with the digital age with author websites and multimedia books.  Suffice it to say, Daisy Whitney&#8217;s videos are informative and very original.</p>
<p>To keep her videos interesting, Daisy doesn&#8217;t always film herself in the same place.  In recent videos she took to the streets and even filmed in her backyard.  The change of scenery makes the videos more personal and less corporate but doesn&#8217;t detract from Daisy&#8217;s expertise or her authoritative content.  I love that her videos are typically under a few minutes in length (often under one minute) yet tell a complete story filled with snippets of interesting and useful information.  Daisy creates several new videos each month, so there is always something new to see and learn on New Media Minute.</p>
